What We Wrote in Self-Isolation in the Strange Spring of 2020

Writing, Finishing (and Publishing) your Story with Anette Pollner

 4 workshops on 4 consecutive Saturdays, 9, 16, 23, 30 May 2020, the year of self-isolation. 2PM London time. On Zoom.

The workshops will inspire you to work on a new story or your big project (novel, memoir, non-fiction). This time, for the first time, they will also give you an extra-strong goal to work towards.

At the end of the month, your story will be finished. You will get (positive!) input from other writers in the group and also one round of feedback from me. Then, your story will get published (if you want it to be) in a story collection called ‘What I Wrote in Self-Isolation – The Strange Spring of 2020’. The stories don’t have to be about self-isolation, but they will have been written during that time.

I decided to take on that extra work to create a memorable event for all of us at this strangest time in our lives (so far…).

Tools

The four sessions will take you through the process of finding your story, creating new ways of telling it, shaping, reshaping, and creating editing goals.

In addition, you get a weekly ‘incubation buddy’,  input from very different minds and companions on the journey.

When your story is finished, I will give you one round of personal feedback on your story. And then, if you like, your story will be published in this very special short story collection.

(You can write a new story, finish an old story, or work on an excerpt of your long work. Any genre.)

Every workshop will address specific obstacles, and show you new ways of getting into the flow, and new adventures of the creative mind.

I’ve edited and published short story collections from writing groups before, and it has always been a good way to focus the writers' minds!  But combining it with a workshop is a one-off just during this time of self-isolation.

I’m hoping that this little book will be a record of the strange spring of 2020 for yourself and others, forever.

DONATIONS

We know that many people are struggling financially at this time.

So, if you absolutely can’t afford to pay, please participate in the workshop for free. If you become a bestseller author, maybe you can make a donation later.

If you still have an income, please do consider making a donation now. As a freelancer I would very much appreciate it.

Suggested donation:

If you are struggling but have a little bit to give, consider £5 - £10 per session

If you value the workshop and can still express this financially:

£30 per session if you pay for each session separately

£15 - £25 per session if you book all four together (£60 - £100)

(Of course you can always give more to support the arts…)
